Make The Most Of Your Commercial Property

Commercial properties are valued by their available floorspace, so making every square foot count is vital, both inside and out. Many commercial buildings have large roof spaces that provide the perfect location to install solar panels.

    Save On Energy Bills

By taking advantage of this unused space, commercial properties can significantly reduce their energy bills by installing solar panels. Furthermore, excess electricity can be stored in a solar battery system to power the property at times when the sun isn’t shining, further offsetting the cost of doing business.

    Return On Investment

Over time the cost of a commercial solar panel installation has decreased, making it a financially viable option for more and more business owners.

Beyond the financial benefits, investing in a renewable energy project amplifies your business’s commitment to sustainability, boosting your green credentials and reinforcing your dedication to a carbon-neutral future.

Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial Solar Power

How Can Solar Power Save My Business Money?

Investing in solar power can offer significant financial benefits for your business.

By installing solar panels, your company can generate its own electricity, thereby reducing or even eliminating its dependence on the grid. This translates to lower monthly energy bills and insulates the business from volatile energy prices.

Although they do require an upfront investment, commercial solar panel installations can qualify for tax credits, grants, or subsidies, which can offset the initial costs. Over time, the system will pay for itself, resulting in substantial long-term savings.

In our experience, we have seen some larger systems paying back the initial investment in as little as five years, with typical Returns On Investment (ROI) of up to 15%.

What Is Net Zero And Why Is It Important?

Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere.

In a net zero scenario, a company would offset their carbon emissions by an equivalent amount, either through carbon capture technologies, reforestation efforts, or by investing in renewable energy sources such as solar panels in order to replace fossil fuels.

The ultimate goal is to create a carbon-neutral footprint, mitigating the impact of activities on climate change. Achieving net zero is considered essential for limiting global warming to safe levels, as outlined in international agreements like the Paris Accord.

Moreover, by reducing its carbon footprint, your business can also gain a competitive edge through enhanced sustainability credentials, appealing to increasingly eco-conscious consumers and investors.

Do I need planning permission to install commercial solar panels?

In most cases, commercial photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 1MW in size do not require planning permission, provided they meet certain criteria.

Permitted development rights criteria usually involve specifications related to the size, height, and positioning of the solar panels, among other factors. However, it’s essential to check local and national regulations as there can be exceptions, especially if your property is located in a conservation area or is a listed building.

Installations above this limit require planning permission. Where needed, Purelec Energy can advise on the best course of action.

Can my business benefit from a feed in tariff?

The Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme came to a close for new applicants in 2019, but was replaced by the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

Under the Smart Export Guarantee, electricity suppliers that meet certain criteria are mandated to offer tariffs for exported electricity generated from renewable sources, including solar power. However, unlike the Feed in Tariff, the Smart Export Guarantee uses a market-led pricing strategy rather than a fixed price model. This allows generators to shop around to get the best price for the power they produce.
