This project represents a significant step forward in showing how even the most cherished Grade II listed buildings can lead the way in the renewable energy revolution.
Christ Church New Mill is a beautiful example of Gothic revival architecture, featuring ashlar masonry and a pitched slate roof. Preserving the aesthetic and structural integrity of such a significant site was our top priority. Our team took meticulous care throughout the installation, which included repairing damaged slates and carefully chasing out masonry walls to hide cabling, ensuring the church’s historic character remained untouched.
To meet the church’s energy needs while maximizing self-consumption, we designed a high-capacity turnkey solar and battery storage solution.
• Solar Array: 62 JA Solar 450W bifacial panels, totaling a 27.9 kWp system size.
• Inverter Technology: A dual-inverter setup featuring one SolaX X3-PRO G2 (10kW) and one SolaX X3-HYBRID G4 (15kW).
• Battery Storage: Four SolaX T-BAT H 5.8 units, providing 20.88 kWh of usable capacity.
• Mounting System: We utilized the Renusol VS+ system, specifically engineered for pitched roofs with slate coverings to ensure a secure and durable fit.
The results of this installation are a testament to the power of modern renewable technology:
• Energy Generation: The system is estimated to produce 25,144 kWh of clean electricity annually.
• Sustainability: By utilizing battery storage, the church is projected to achieve 73% self-consumption.
• Carbon Reduction: This project avoids 6 tons of CO2 emissions every year—the equivalent of planting 1,224 trees over the system’s lifetime.
• Significant Savings: The church is expected to save £4,853 in its first year, with projected lifetime savings reaching over £241,000.
