Solar panels for warehouse roofs
Whether it’s powering automation, lighting sprawling interiors, or keeping stock climate controlled with HVAC, warehouse and logistics facilities use significant amounts of electricity. But as energy prices hike and pressures to hit ESG targets grow, more and more operators are turning to solar power to take control of their operations. Thanks to their wide, flat roofs and high energy usage, warehouse buildings are prime candidates for rooftop solar installations. By generating clean power on site, businesses can cut long-term operating costs and reduce reliance on the grid, all while lowering their carbon footprint. At Purelec, we design tailored systems that optimise your roof space, performance, and payback – with minimal disruption to your business. Use our solar panel calculator for warehouse estimates.

Cut long-term energy costs
Warehouse solar panels turn idle roof space into a source of substantial savings. By generating your own electricity during peak daylight hours, you can reduce reliance on the grid, shield your business from unpredictable energy tariffs, and lower ongoing operational expenses. It’s a win-win for both your bottom line and your environmental goals.
Unlock resilience and greener growth
Solar energy also helps demonstrate your commitment to sustainability – ideal for meeting ESG targets and strengthening supplier and client relationships. Plus, with battery storage, organisations can unlock overnight power, boost energy resilience, and even earn additional income by exporting excess power back to the grid.
Experts
Warehouse solar panels: our UK installation process
From site survey to system handover, our end-to-end commercial process ensures precision and minimal disruption.
Site survey
Using satellite imagery and topographical information, we evaluate your roof space, orientation, and current energy usage to paint a picture of your project. Then, we’ll conduct a thorough in-person assessment to make sure our overview is accurate.
Design and quote
Taking every detail into account from our initial site survey, we model your optimal system with ROI, efficiency, and future expansion in mind. At the end of this stage, you’ll receive a personalised quote and be able to request any design adjustments.
System installation
Our engineers are MCS accredited, NICEIC approved, and highly experienced in installing a variety of solar technologies, from highly efficient solar panels and mounting systems to a range of batteries, including the Tesla Powerwall 3, Sunsynk, and GivEnergy.
Ongoing support
As a trusted partner, we’re here for the long haul. So, once your warehouse solar panels have been installed, we’ll support you through monitoring your system’s performance, troubleshooting issues, and getting the most out of your investment for years to come.

Making solar panel installations seamless
Turnkey delivery
Most solar projects are classed as ‘permitted development’ and don’t require local planning permission. But if yours does, we’ll help navigate the process as part of our end-to-end service offering. We’ll even manage complex grid connection approvals too, including liaising with the distribution network operator (DNO) to keep things streamlined and compliant from day one.
Certified expertise
NICEIC approved and backed by MCS certification for systems up to 50kW, Purelec applies the highest standards across every installation. Whatever the size or scope of the project, we leverage decades of expertise to deliver reliable, high-performance systems that drive energy independence, sustainability, and long-term cost savings that set you apart.
Meticulous planning
We know downtime costs. That’s why we plan to the nth degree, taking time to understand your operations and site logistics to plan for access, timing, and safety from the very beginning. This way, we can keep everything on track from start to finish, with a professional, low-impact business solar panel installation that keeps operations running smoothly throughout.

Engineered for efficiency and minimal disruption
We understand the operational demands of warehousing and logistics, where even the smallest disruptions can have a major knock-on effect. That’s why we take a practical approach when installing solar panels on warehouse buildings. Most projects will require scaffolding and rooftop access, for example, so we work flexibly around your operations to avoid interfering with deliveries, shift patterns, or on-site movement. If you lease your building, we’ll even help you start conversations early with your landlord to streamline permissions and align on access requirements. And, because we know how important site coordination is to your team’s workflow and compliance, we’ll work closely with your facilities and health and safety departments to ensure full compliance with all site-specific protocols. Whether you're running a chilled storage unit or a high-throughput distribution centre, Purelec makes the process safe, seamless, and straightforward from start to finish.

Store excess power and scale with demand
Energy use in warehousing isn’t static – it rises with seasonal demand, longer shifts, or business expansion. We build every solar system with this context in mind. With battery storage, you can hold onto surplus power and use it when it’s needed most, whether that’s during peak hours or overnight operations, reducing reliance on the grid and increasing ROI. And, if your site grows, your solar setup can scale with it – no need to start from scratch.
trusted
Long-term performance, guaranteed
We specialise in solar panel installation for warehouses, using only high-performance, commercial-grade solar panels and batteries backed by manufacturer warranties of up to 30 years. Every installation also comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, so you can have peace of mind from day one. And, to keep your system running at its best, we offer optional maintenance packages that include regular health checks, performance monitoring, and quick-response support whenever you need it.
Proven results from
warehouse installations
We’ve delivered solar panel systems for warehouses across the UK – from logistics hubs to industrial distribution centres. Our clients consistently report lower energy bills, improved energy security, and smoother operations post-installation. But don’t just take our word for it:
“Our experience with Purelec Energy has been outstanding. From the initial quotation to the final handover, the process was seamless. The responsiveness, attention to detail, and ability to deliver within our tight timelines were exceptional. In just eight months, we’ve generated over 60,000 kWh of renewable energy, significantly reducing our energy costs and supporting our sustainability goals. We’re already considering a second phase with battery storage.”

Warehouse solar FAQs
Explore our frequently asked questions about solar for schools, colleges, and universities. If you still need support, get in touch with our experts.
If I’m exploring solar panels for my warehouse, how much roof space do I need?
Warehouse roofs are typically ideal for solar, offering large, unobstructed areas. A 50kWp system installed on a trapezoidal metal pitched roof would require approximately 220 square metres of usable roof space. To prevent shading, a flat roof installation would require a larger area due to the spacing between rows.
Will solar affect warehouse operations?
Our installations are planned around your operations, including out-of-hours work and coordination with logistics and safety teams. We know installing solar panels on warehouse rooftops requires careful planning, so we work to minimise any disruption to your day-to-day business.
What if I operate more than one site?
We provide scalable solar solutions for multisite operators and can help you evaluate, quote, and install systems across your portfolio.
Do I need battery storage for my warehouse?
Not always, but pairing battery storage with solar panels for warehouses could significantly boost energy efficiency. It allows you to store excess power throughout the day for use during evening shifts, outages, or when grid rates are higher.
Can I get funding or tax relief for solar?
Commercial solar investments may qualify for capital allowances, offering significant tax relief. Currently, solar panels can be claimed under the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA), allowing 100% of the cost (up to £1 million annually) to be written off against taxable profits in the year of purchase. So, for example, if you spend £1 million on a qualifying solar project, you could deduct the full amount from profits using AIA and potentially save up to £250,000 in corporation tax (at a 25% rate).
If the project exceeds the AIA limit, the remaining amount can be claimed under Writing Down Allowances (WDAs) – typically at 18% per year on a reducing balance for qualifying plant and machinery, or 6% for assets with longer economic lives or integral features in buildings such as solar PV systems. And it’s not only the panels that count. Other eligible costs include batteries, inverters, installation, and even the fees to connect to the electricity grid.
