A Record-Breaking Year For Solar Installations
2023 saw a new record set for UK solar installations, surpassing previous years and reflecting a significant shift towards renewable energy. This growth indicates strong consumer confidence and commitment to sustainable practices, even amidst ongoing economic challenges.

In a move that surprised many, the government announced changes to make it more difficult for solar panels to be installed on arable land. Whilst this was described by Downing Street as step towards protecting the UK’s food production capabilities, it was also a step backwards for renewable energy.

Ofgem’s Energy Price Cap Rise
Unfortunately, 2024 kicks off with some bad news, as energy prices rise due to Ofgem’s price cap increase. This is due, in part, to the UK’s lack of energy independence, and further highlights the importance of sustainable home energy solutions like solar power to shield us against global events.
0% VAT On All Battery Storage Solutions
On a positive note, the government recently announced that they would remove VAT from the installation of standalone and retrofitted battery storage solutions. The scheme starts on the 1st of February 2024 and will save homeowners 20% on new installations.
Tesla Powerwall 3 Launch
The much loved Tesla Powerwall is due to receive an upgrade this year. The Powerwall 3 is expected to represent a significant advancement in home energy storage, featuring an integrated solar inverter that allows solar panels to be connected directly for high efficiency.
